OSTI ID:5981949
A program to develop direct gain solar heating and to conserve energy in the buildings of the Manchester neighborhood of Pittsburgh is described. The need for such programs in inner cities and for citizen involvement in each neighborhood is discussed. The conditions of the urban housing environment are described. Analysis of energy requirements and of energy-conscious design alternatives are discussed, and design approaches are outlined. It is intended that the first cost to the building occupants should not exceed the money saved by the improvements made. (LEW)
