Book ·
OSTI ID:5981307
Two days of hearings focused on the status and progress in the development of environmental cleanup technologies, health effects and ways to manage the risks of hazardous materials in the environment, and on public involvement in the decision making process. Three panels of witnesses examined the situation in Missouri, where dioxin contamination is a problem, in this context. The witnesses included representatives of engineering companies, environmental agency and citizen groups, and the health professions. The hearing opens with a summary of Superfund strategy, a discussion of how cleanup technologies are selected, and an analysis of the problems inherent with either removal or containment of hazardous materials. Two appendices with additional correspondence and statements for the record follow the testimony of eleven witnesses.
