The six-day hearing record covers the testimony of 28 witnesses representing health and insurance professions, environmental and safety agencies, citizens groups, and others. The second phase of hearings took place after the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released certain documents which were previously withheld. At issue was the assessment of risk from toxic materials and compensation for the victims of exposure to these materials. Witnesses discussed the Superfund and other provisions in terms of their administration and level of funding. They expressed a diversity of opinions and approaches, as well as an appreciation for the new legal ground under consideration. Additional reports, correspondence, and other materials submitted for the record follow the testimony.
