Public power costs less: IOU residential rates averaged 43. 5% higher in 1981. [Investor-owned utilities]

A comparison of charges to customers of public and private electric utilities shows that public power continues to cost significantly less per kilowatthour. Residential customers paid an average of $1.88 cents more for private power. Public utilities report lower administrative and general expenses for revenue generated and per kilowatthour sales. While production costs were lower for public power, distribution costs were higher than those of private utilities. 1 figure, 3 tables. (DCK)
