An economic effects study of air pollution damages to greenhouse crop production in Southeastern Pennsylvania was conducted from November 1970 to September 1971. This study was a cooperative effort of The Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology and The Center for Air Environment Studies, an interdisciplinary unit established to coordinate research and instruction concerning the interaction of man and his environment. The primary objective of this investigation was to assess the magnitude, in dollars, of direct air pollution effects to commercial greenhouse crop production in an air-basin region, as a measure of air pollution control benefits. The specific greenhouse crop production study served as a model application of a general methodology developed to measure the costs of direct air pollution effects.
