A reprint of the Acid Rain Control Act of 1985 (S.52) shows how it amends the Clean Air Act by adding a section (Part E, Section 180) on long-range transport of air pollutants. The Act establishes a transport corridor, called the acid deposition impact region, consisting of 31 states and the District of Columbia. A study of the impact area and a task force established by the Energy Security Act will support and conduct research to report to Congress. The Act establishes funding and procedures for the project. The goal is to reduce annual sulfur dioxide emissions in the impact region on the basis of these findings. States will have 24 months to adopt enforceable reduction measures. The Act makes other changes in wording and procedure.
