The Acid Rain Control Act of 1986 establishes a program to demonstrate control technologies and reduce allowable emissions. Title 1 amends the Acid Precipitation Act of 1980 to expand research and commercialization of new technology through a federally funded demonstration program. It establishes a panel to determine eligibility and authorization for funding. Title II amends the Clean Air Act to reduce long-range transport and atmospheric precipitation by establishing a transport corridor as the acid deposition impact region encompassing 32 states and the District of Columbia. A two-year study of this corridor will analyze the costs and benefits of limiting emissions of sulfur dioxide and setting state reduction requirements.
