The authors studied hydrothermal synthesis in the multicomponent systems Y/sub 2/O/sub 3/-Sb/sub 2/O/sub 3/-p-H/sub 2/O, where p is KF, KHF/sub 2/ or CsF, depending on various thermodynamic parameters: the crystallization temperature (T), the pressure (p), the temperature gradient (..delta..T), the molar ratio of the initial oxides (N = Y/sub 2/O/sub 3//Sb/sub 2/O/sub 3/) and the type and concentration of the solvent. To effect the hydrothermal crystallization of yttrium antimonite, a charge was prepared from antimony sesquioxide of very pure grade and yttrium oxide of 99.9% purity. The molar ratio of the initial oxides Y/sub 2/O/sub 3/:Sb/sub 2/O/sub 3/ ranged from 3:1 to 1:3. The synthesized crystalline phases were identified by x-ray phase, x-ray spectral, and x-ray structural analyses.
