Electrical ignition systems for gas fired equipment

Patent ·
OSTI ID:5927717
W.A. Ray's new automatic, simple, and low-cost electrical ignition system, adaptable to gas-fired equipment such as those with capacities of 400,000 Btu, saves fuel by completely eliminating the need for a constantly burning pilot. The ignition system may light either a pilot or the main burner; in one variant, the pilot is omitted altogether. The systems are adaptable to new equipment or to the retrofit of existing equipment having a pilot. The safety interlocks included are responsive to a thermocouple, providing assured, safe, and positive operation under all possible conditions.
