Fedders Corporation is now offering a combination heating-cooling rooftop unit capable of operating on either natural gas or propane with no conversion. The unit combines a gas-fired furnace with an electrically powered cooling system and is available with either automatic or manned switchover for the 210,000-400,000 Btu heating range and 7 1/2-25 ton cooling range to fill the need to commercialized units. The primary/secondary air ratio was controlled by baffling within the pressurized burner box section initially by a manifold and orifice arrangement similar to the normal natural gas manifold but incorporating 2 gas valve connections to the manifold. This arrangement was later modified to a dual orifice and manifold system using a coaxial orifice plug assembly. The 1st series run through A.G.A. consisted of 3 models equipped with glow coil ignition with standing pilots and with 2 firing rates (210,000 and 270,000 Btu/hr). Spark ignition and a dual orifice supplying gas to the runner light tube were later introduced fo fulfill A.G.A.'s requirement for a natural-gas-burning pilot at all times.
