Study of the adsorption of CO/sub 2/ by hydrous zirconium dioxide

The adsorption of CO/sub 2/ by hydrous zirconium dioxide prepared by the sol-gel method and containing various amounts of calcium hydroxide has been studied. It is shown that all the specimens are microporous adsorbents; a change in their sorption capacity for carbon dioxide and specific surface have an extremal nature dependent on the calcium hydroxide content. The adsorption of CO/sub 2/ takes place irreversibly and a fraction of the irreversibly sorbed CO/sub 2/ increases substantially with an increase in the calcium hydroxide content. The effect of the temperature at which the adsorbent is treated on its sorption capacity is discussed.
