Method of controlling incompetent formations

This is a method of consolidating incompetent sands and preventing them from being produced along with well fluids by a method which will not cause a prohibitive reduction in the permeability of the formation. The formation is cleaned to remove hydrocarbon plugging materials from it by in-situ combustion. A cavity is formed in the well bore area by removing that portion of the formation which has been cleaned. An aqueous slurry of sand and a highly refractive cement is placed in the cavity. This slurry consists of aluminous cement and alkali metal soluble silicate cement. The so-positioned slurry is blown with gas to increase its permeability. After the cement has set, the well is completed to allow production through the cement plug. The well is utilized production by in-situ combustion. (6 claims)
