This method of treating an oil-containing incompetent formation penetrated by a well bore involves the forming of a slurry of sand, cement and a sufficient amount of water to wet the sand and cement particles. The wetted sand and cement particles are suspended in a petroleum fraction carrier medium thickened with a gelling agent. The slurry also contains from 2 to 10% by wt of a water and oil insoluble resinous material, such as phenol-formaldehyde or polyepoxide material. The suspension is injected against the unconsolidated formation at a pressure sufficient to force the suspension into the unconsolidated formation. The cement is allowed to set to form a permeable cement. Oil is recovered through the formed permeable cement. (10 claims)
