We have measured the angular distributions of fission fragments for a series of compound nuclei formed in the bombardment of /sup 181/Ta, W, Re, Pt, /sup 197/Au, Pb, and /sup 209/Bi by 72.7, 69.6, 67.4, 65.4, 63.4 and 61.4 MeV /sup 12/C ions with mica track detectors. The critical angular momentum l/sub cr/ can be determined directly from the statistical analysis of the fission fragment angular distribution corresponding to the fission events with full momentum transfer. The complete fusion cross sections sigma/sub fu/ were calculated on the basis of the sharp cutoff model. The results for l/sub cr/ obtained by this method were compared with those predicted by the R. Bass model. The published data on fission fragment angular distributions of /sup 14/N+Pb and /sup 12/C+/sup 238/U reactions were also analyzed by this method. The values of sigma/sub fu/ are found to be in good agreement with the direct complete fusion cross-section measurements.
