Effects of air pollutants on vegetation

The various kinds of injuries a plant can sustain from air pollutants are described. The kinds of injury caused by, and the sources of, various air pollutants are described and discussed. Among the pollutants discussed are sulfur dioxide, fluorides, ozone, peroxyacetyl nitrate, nitrogen dioxide, chlorine, and particulates. Species differences in sensitivity are discussed, and strategies for the prevention of phytotoxic effects are outlined.
