Shape coexistence in /sup 187/Au

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. C; (United States)

The level structure of odd-proton /sup 187/Au was studied using the /sup 172/Yb(/sup 19/F,4/ital n/) reaction. Gamma-gamma coincidence, angular distributions and ..gamma..-..gamma..-time measurements were used to establish the energies, spins, parities, and lifetimes for the states in the decay scheme of /sup 187/Au. Both prolate and oblate structures have been established. The prolate bands are built on the ..pi../ital h//sub 9/2/ ..cap alpha..=+-(1/2) and the ..pi../ital i//sub 13/2/ (..cap alpha..=1/2) particle states. Anoblate, strongly coupled band built on a 90+-10 ns isomericstate is reported for the first time. A second oblate structure built on the/ital h//sub 11/2/ proton-hole state was established to much higher spinthan before. The backbend present in the ..pi../ital i//sub 13/2/ band hasbeen interpreted as the alignment of a pair of /ital h//sub 9/2/ protons.
