A detailed study of low-energy states in {sup 187}Au, populated by {sup 187{ital m},{ital g}}Hg {beta} decay and using {gamma}-{gamma} and {gamma}-{ital e} coincidence spectroscopy, has revealed two negative-parity band structures with identical spins, nearly identical relative energies, and electric monopole ({ital E}0) transitions connecting the favored members. These bands can be understood as {pi}{ital h}{sub 9/2} and {pi}{ital f}{sub 7/2} intruders coupled to coexisting prolate or near-prolate ({gamma}{le}20{degree}) cores. We propose that the diabatic configurations defining these cores differ by their numbers of {ital N}=5 intruder protons.
