Analysis of partial photonucleon cross sections on the basis of the widths of semidirect decay of a collective dipole state
A method has been developed for analysis of partial photonucleon cross sections (cross sections of the reactions (..gamma.., p/sub i/) and (..gamma.., n/sub i/), where the subscript i indicates the final-nucleus state being populated) which permits extraction from them of information on the probability of the semidirect mechanism of decay of the giant dipole resonance. The method utilizes experimental data on partial photonucleon cross sections, spectroscopic characteristics of the states populated from reactions of one-nucleon transfer, and expressions for the widths of semidirect decay of giant dipole resonances following from the R-matrix theory. The possibilities of the method are illustrated in a specific example: partial photonucleon cross sections for the nucleus/sup 27/ Al. It is established that for this nucleus the probability of the semidirect mechanism of decay of the giant dipole resonance in the (..gamma..,p) channel is 0.38--0.45, and in the (..gamma.., n) channel it is 0.90. The method permits estimates to be obtained for the partial photonucleon cross sections for population of the lowest states of the final nuclei.
