Advantages of centralizing the processing of crude benzol and coal tar from Ukrainian plants
Centralizing is the key in the future of tar and crude benzol processing for the Ukrainian plants. Since the State Plan envisages increased coke and chemical production, the fuller utilization of raw materials, higher product quality and the continued raising of labor productivity levels, the questions raised in the article are very pressing. Over the last few years a significant change has taken place in the quality of the coal tar available for processing. It has become more highly pyrolyzed and denser. Water and solids are not settled out so completely; the phenols and oils yields have fallen; more pitch is produced, but its quality is poorer with respect to its contents of substances insoluble in toluene and quinoline. Certain changes have recently been introduced in the technology of coal tar processing. They are mainly directed towards improving the quality and increasing the yield of naphthalene, simplifying the production of anthracene oils in connection with the changes in consumer requirements, and the continued improvement of working conditions.
