Incineration system produces steam while disposing of polymer plant wastes

The use of a waste incineration system which generates steam at a polymer production plant while disposing of process wastes is described. There have been no operating problems. Waste disposal and air pollution control have been satisfactory. The waste heat boiler can produce up to 57,000 lb/hr of 180 psig steam, which is 95% of the plant's steam requirement. Resulting fuel saving for the normal amount of steam produced is nearly 31 million Btu/hr, valued at about $1700/day and equivalent to enough natural gas to provide year-round heating for more than 1200 homes. Recirculation of water from the filters back to the Venturi scrubber reduces water consumption while decreasing the quantity of water that would otherwise require treatment in the plant's wastewater treating facilities. Landfill costs have been greatly reduced. (LCL)
