Book

OSTI ID:7349242
The cost for solid waste disposal in the U.S. in 1975 is estimated at $7.8 billion. 85 percent of the waste is disposed of simply by open dumping. 15 percent is disposed of by sanitary land fill or incineration. These two disposal methods are discussed in detail. Information is included on solid waste statistics and collection and sorting methods; the design and operation of incinerators; site selection, economic, air pollution, heat recovery, and engineering aspects of incineration; land fill practices, equipment, economics, and administration; and plastics in incineration and landfill processes.
