The effect of dispersion of the active medium of a gas ring laser on the beat frequency between the oppositely traveling waves when the intensity of the waves is not small and one cannot use perturbation theory with respect to a field force is considered theoretically. Neglecting the effects of population modulation the scale factor is calculated for a medium consisting of a single isotope (outside the center of the gain line) and for an equal-isotope mixture. The result is expressed in terms of the plasma function of complex argument. For an active medium in which the gain contour is determined by nonuniform broadening, approximate formulas are given for the scale factor applicable close to the center of the gain line of an equal-isotope mixture.
