Investigation of Zeeman beats in a two-mode traveling-wave laser

Journal Article · · Sov. J. Quant. Electron. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)

A report is given of experimental and theoretical investigations of the sum of frequencies of the Zeeman beats of opposite waves in a two-mode He--Ne traveling-wave laser (lambda=1.15 ..mu..) with a circularly anisotropic resonator. It is shown that in a fairly wide range of detuning near the maximum of the gain curve the sum of the beat frequencies is proportional to the detuning. The coefficient of proportionality (magnetic sensitivity function) is considered as a function of the magnetic field applied to the active medium, excess of the gain over the losses, and pressure in the He--Ne mixture. The results can be used in the design of frequency-stabilized traveling-wave lasers.
