Determination of second virial coefficients and viscosities of gases with a capillary column

Journal Article · · J. Chromatogr. Sci.; (United States)
It appears possible to determine the second virial coefficient, the viscosity at zero pressure, and the pressure dependence of the viscosity of gases and gas mixtures by varying the pressures at both ends of a capillary column. Since the method assumes an empty column, it is therefore free from the interference of solvents or packing solids. The use of a chromatograph to analyze the composition of the gas mixture permits a rapid measurement of the second virial coefficient and the viscosity of the mixture.
