Determination of second virial coefficients and viscosities of gases with a capillary column

Journal Article · · J. Chromatogr. Sci.; (United States)
Mathematical analysis suggests that a laboratory method that varies the pressures at both ends of a capillary column should be able to determine the second virial coefficient, viscosity at zero pressure, and pressure dependence of the viscosity of pure gases and gas mixtures. By assuming an empty column, the approach would be free from the interference of solvents or packing solids. Using a chromatograph to analyze the composition of the gas mixture permits rapid measurements of the second virial coefficient and the viscosity of the mixture.
