New testing laboratory for extra high voltage cable

The demand for electricity in and around built up areas is leading to the adoption of underground transmission at the highest possible voltages. Cables are already in operation at 275 kV ac and projects for 400 kV cables are in hand. It is also probable that within the next decade high voltage dc cables will be introduced.
