Bonneville power administration's extra high voltage dc tests. I. Contaminated insulator tests

Prior to the establishment of Bonneville Power Administration's direct current test facilities, there was not available a high voltage power supply with high enough current for the securing of reliable flashover data on insulator strings. It appears that the different types of insulator tests made to date indicate that by relatively simple adjustment of insulator design parameters, no unusual problems were found. The tests described, in conjunction with those described in a companion paper, will serve as the basis fo the preparation of specifications for the selection of the insulator types suitable for ehv dc transmission lines.
