Retrofits seen saving fuel, steadying supplies

Journal Article · · Energy User News; (United States)
OSTI ID:5851285
Industrial and institutional fuel users who retrofit boilers to consume at least two different types of fuel can change back and forth between different fuels, and take advantage of localized price differences as well as hedge against future price increases. Mutli-fuel capability also forces fuel suppliers to have competitive prices. Payback over single-fuel capacity boilers can range from 1.5 to five years. The most prominent types of boiler conversions are from natural gas to both gas and oil and from coal-fired to gas and oil. A directory of major suppliers of multi-fuel boilers accompanies the article.
