Environmental processes '93: Challenge in the '90s

Capital spending on environmental projects will soar despite a worldwide recession. In the U.S. alone, pollution control spending will exceed $160 billion by 1995. HPI operators are forced to shift their efforts from production-yielding to environmentally driven projects. Governments and public interest groups are the impetus begin this environmental-cleanup trend. Unending creation of new state and federal regulations also accelerates this spending spree. The HPI must carefully and cost-effectively invest its limited capital in environmental compliance and product enhancement projects. Decision making is the hard part. After a decision is made, goal setting is easier. Because environmental compliance is a complex problem, management must use several tools to survive these economically uncertain times.
