OSTI ID:5846910
A novel electrically operated ignition system for gas burners is adaptable to conventional gas-fired appliances that use pilot burners, such as clothes dryers, cooking ranges, water heaters, and furnaces. The ignition system includes a pulser apparatus that provides alternate periods of full- and half-wave current to the electric ignition element; the periods of half-wave current permit the ignition element to cool, thus greatly decreasing its tendency to fail during prolonged use.
