The fuel consumption due to pilot lights on residential gas appliances used in California was studied to determine how much gas could be saved by replacing pilot lights with intermittent ignition devices (IID). The cost, safety, and fuel savings for forced-air central furnaces, clothes dryers, swimming pool heaters, gas ranges, and room heaters are evaluated. (LCL)
