Pacific Gas and Electric Co. is making $19 million available for financial incentives in the form of rebates of up to 40% for energy management systems and $10 per horsepower for energy-efficient electric motors, as well as rebates for energy-efficient appliances and supermarket food cases. This expands the existing rebate program for ballasts and lighting conversions. The program is an effort to avoid plant expansion at the cost of $1500 per kilowatt (kW) while conservation programs cost only $80 per kW saved. Application received before September 15 will have an additional $10,000 added to the $100,000 rebate ceiling. The utility specifies individual requirements for each kind of equipment. (DCK)
