PPG to use computer heat, reflective glass in complex

The nearly completed six-building PPG Place will use 75% less energy per square foot than PPG's current facilities by recapturing computer waste heat for space heating and by using double-paned, Solarban 500 reflective glass and variable-air-volume equipment that modulates air volume rather than air temperature. The design features could keep energy consumption as low as 30,300 Btu per square foot, which is below the national average for new office buildings. The $5 million additional cost will have a seven-year payback. A Honeywell Delta 1000 energy-management system will control all building energy and safety systems. (DCK)
