An investigation of the processes of separation of methylindoles from coking feedstocks

Journal Article · · Coke Chem. USSR (Engl. Transl.); (United States)

Studies were made into possible methods of separating indole and methylindoles from wash oil from coal tar rectification. Experiments were conducted using chromatographic separation in two-stages. Used for this was a column 3m in length, 4mm in diameter, and operating at 200 degrees celsius. It was concluded that in the two-stage chromatographic separation of a product containing 56% indole and 20% methylindoles a fraction was separated after stage I on a polar sorbent containing 50% indole and 49% methylindole; and after stage II on a non-polar sorbent, a fraction with an 89% concentration of methylindoles. Three illustrations and three tables of data were included.
