Synthesis of (polyfluoro-1-hydroxyalkyl)phosphines and 3,5,8-tris-(polyfluoroalkyl)-2,6,7-trioxa-1,4-diphosphabicyclo(2. 2. 2. )-octanes from polyfluorinated aliphatic aldehydes

Polyfluoro aliphatic aldehydes react at P-H bonds in phosphines with the formation of (polyfluoro-1-hydroxyalkyl)phosphines, which are stable at room temperature. In the thermolysis of these compounds the main course of the decomposition consists in the elimination of an aldehyde molecule. In the reaction of tris(polyfluoro-1-hydroxylalkyl)phosphines with phosphorus trichloride 3,5,8-tris(polyfluoroalkyl)-2,6,7-trioxa-1,4-diphosphabicyclo(2.2.2)octanes are formed.
