Multistage system for producing hydrocarbons

This patent discusses a multi-stage system for converting olefins to heavier hydrocarbons. This multi-stage system consists of: 1.) sorption prefractionation for separating olefinic feedstock into a sorbate stream rich in liquified olefins and a vapor stream rich in light olefins; 2.) a first stage catalytic reactor for oligomerizing the olefins from the sorbate stream including maintainance of the first stage at elevated pressure and predetermined temperature for producing substantially linear aliphatic hydrocarbons; 3.) a second stage catalytic reactor for oligomerizing the light olefins from the vapor stream including maintainance of the second stage under high severity conditions at a substantially high temperature than the first stage; 4.) a product fractionation for separating combined effluent from the first and second stages to separate and recover heavy hydrocarbon product and a sorbent recycle fraction; and 5.) a system for recycling the sorbent fraction to the sorption prefractionation for contacting olefinic feedstock with the recycled sorbent.
