Multistage process for converting oxygenates to distillate hydrocarbons with interstage ethene recovery
This patent describes a continuous multi-stage catalytic system for converting oxygenated feedstock to liquid hydrocarbons. It comprises: primary stage catalytic dehydration means containing catalyst for converting oxygenate to light olefinic vapor and normally liquid C{sub 5}{sup +} hydrocarbons; interstage separation means for recovering water and hydrocarbons from the primary stage effluent stream; first fractionation means for recovering ethene from the primary stage olefinic vapor including a sorption tower operatively connected to selectively sorb C{sub 3}{sup +} hydrocarbons from the olefinic vapor in a liquid sorption stream; means for pressurizing and heating the liquid sorption stream containing C{sub 3}{sup +} sorbate; secondary stage catalytic oligomerization reactor means containing medium pore shape selective zeolite oligomerization catalyst for converting olefinic hydrocarbons in the sorption stream to liquid hydrocarbons comprising a major amount of distillate; second fractionation means for separating secondary stage effluent into a light hydrocarbon stream rich in C{sub 3}-C{sub 4} aliphatic hydrocarbons a C{sub 5}{sup +} gasoline stream and distillate range stream; and means for recycling at least a portion of the C{sub 5}{sup +} gasoline stream to the first fractionation means.
