Electron paramagnetic resonance spectra of Pr{sup 4+} ions doped in Sr{sub 2}SnO{sub 4} and Ba{sub 2}SnO{sub 4}
- Hokkaido Univ., Sapporo (Japan)
The isotropic electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra of powders with Pr{sup 4+} doped in M{sub 2}SnO{sub 4} (M = Sr, Ba) with K{sub 2}NiF{sub 4}-type structure were measured at 4.2 K. A very large hyperfine interaction with the {sup 141}Pr nucleus was observed. The results were analyzed based on the weak field approximation, and g values and hyperfine coupling constants A were obtained. The measured g values are much smaller than {vert_bar} - 10/7{vert_bar}, showing that the crystal field effect on the behavior of a 4{line_integral} electron is large. The value of {vert_bar}g{vert_bar} decreases from 0.646 (Pr{sup 4+}/Ba{sub 2}SnO{sub 4}) to 0.615 (Pr{sup 4+}/Sr{sub 2}SnO{sub 4}), which is caused by the increase of the crystal field due to the shrinking of the lattice. In contrast, the hyperfine coupling constants are almost constant: A 0.0605 cm{sup -1}.
