Rotation-alignment effect in /sup 198/Hg in an angular momentum projected band-mixing calculation

The crossing of the ground and the S band and the interaction between these two in /sup 198/Hg are studied for states of sharp angular momenta by projection from deformed intrinsic states and subsequent diagonalization. The S band crosses the ground band producing backbend around 8h, in agreement with experiment. The spectra as well as the rotation alignment of i13/2 neutrons are presented.
