The quark combinatorics rules are used to calculate the average multiplicities of secondary particles in the central and fragmentation regions of hadron-hadron collisions. In the case of secondary mesons we take into account the production of particles which, according to the SU(6) classification, belong to multiplets with orbital angular momenta of the qq-bar pair L = 0 and 1 (J/sup P/ = 0/sup -/, 1/sup -/ and 0/sup +/, 1/sup +/, 2/sup +/), while in the case of baryons we take into account those belonging to the lowest S-wave 56-plet (J/sup P/ = 1/2/sup +/, 3/2/sup +/). The final expressions for the mean multiplicities are written in a form which is convenient for direct comparison with the experimental data.
