Features of production of C-even heavy quarkonium in hadron collisions

We study the distribution in the transverse momenta q/sub perpendicular/ of P-wave states of heavy quarkonium QQ-bar with quantum numbers J/sup P/C = (0,1,2)/sup + +/ (mesons of the chi type) produced in hadron-hadron collisions. We show that in the case of production of chi as the result of the hard mechanism q+q-bar..-->..chi+g (pp-bar, ..pi..p, and K/sup -/p reactions) the nonrelativistic nature of the QQ-bar system leads to a universal spectrum (J = 0,1,2) dsigma/dq/sup 2//sub perpendicular/infinityq/sup -2//sub perpendicular/ in the region Epsilon..chi+q, g+g..-->..chi+g) correspond to qualitatively different spectra for mesons with J/sup P/C = 0/sup + +/, 2/sup + +/, and for the 1/sup + +/ meson. We discuss the influence on the distribution in q/sub perpendicular/ of higher corrections of QCD associated with the multiple emission of bremsstrahlung gl*ons.
