The average secondary-particle multiplicities obtained within the framework of quark combinatorics (V. V. Anisovich, M. N. Kobrinskii, and J. Nyiri, Sov. J. Nucl. Phys. 34, 111 (1981)) are compared to the experimental data on high energy ..pi../sup + -/p, K/sup -/p, and pp interactions. The data on secondary-particle production indicate that one of the main premises of quark combinatorics is true: the production of particles in SU(6) multiplets. For mesons the main contribution comes from multiplets with pair orbital angular momenta L = 0 (J/sup P/ = 0/sup -/, 1/sup -/) and L = 1 (J/sup P/ = 0/sup +/, 1/sup +/, 2/sup +/). In the case of baryons we have considered only the lowest s-wave 56-plet with J/sup P/ = 1/2/sup +/, 3/2/sup +/, which gives only a rough description of the data. The contribution of baryons of the p-wave 70-plet is expected to be large (up to 30%).
