P -odd asymmetries in the deep inelastic scattering of polarized leptons and antileptons by nucleons
The P-odd asymmetries in the deep inelastic scattering of polarized leptons and antileptons by nucleons are studied. A number of relations between the asymmetries are obtained, which are based on the assumption of the V, A structure of the neutral current. Based on the Weinberg-Salam theory for isoscalar targets, relations are obtained between the asymmetries and other measurable quantities using only the transformation properties of the hadronic neutral current. It is shown that if the contribution to the asymmetry of the isoscalar current is small (this assumption is based on the parton model) and if sin/sup 2/thetaapprox. =1/4, then A/sub -//q/sup 2/ and A/sub +//q/sup 2/ (where A/sub -/ and A/sub +/ are the P-odd asymmetries in the scattering of leptons and antileptons) are equal in magnitude and opposite in sign, depend weakly on the kinematic variables, and A/sub -//q/sup 2/approx. =-9 x 10/sup -5/ GeV/sup -2/.
