The newly developed low capacity anion exchange resin column performed well with satisfactory selectivity for the separation of the various isomeric phenolic compounds when compared with another low capacity resin with all its ion exchange sites near the surface of the hydrophobic resin beads. The resin used in the experiments is composed of a porous gel matrix of polyacrylamide, and its structure may be used advantageously to separate the phenols. The microbore packed anion exchange columns were operated for a y at pH values from 4-13 with various organic modifiers without damage to the column. The experimental results are reproducible. 24 references, 12 figures, 1 table.
