IPAA (Independent Petroleum Association of America) sees slight 1979 oil demand rise

According to IPAA at its Midyear Meeting (Reno, Nev. May 1979), 1979 US oil demand (in millions of bbl/day) will be 18.926, including 7.494 for motor gasoline, up 1% from 1978; 1.113 for aviation fuel, up 1.2%; 3.604 for middle distillates, up 1%; 2.9 for residual fuel oil, down 4%; 1.45 for LPG, up 3.4%; and 2.365 for other products, up 2.4%. 1979 US production in 1979 (in millions of bbl/day) is expected to be 8.641 for crude oil, a decline of 0.07 from 1978, including an increase in Alaskan North Slope production of 0.139 and a decline in all other states of 0.209. Natural gas liquids production is expected to fall by 24,000 bbl/day to 1.543 million. US supply is expected to be 19.294 million bbl/day, an increase of 186,000. Total US energy consumption is expected to be 79.4 quadrillion Btu (quads), up 1.6%, including 3.2 quads for nuclear energy, up 8.2%; 3.4 quads for hydropower/geothermal, up 4.5%; 14.8 quads for coal, up 4.1%; 38 quads for oil, up 0.9%; and 20 quads for natural gas, up approx. 1%.
