For 1975, contractors in the US had received awards for, were working on, or had laid 5365.53 miles of pipeline (2396.62 miles of natural gas lines, 1002.21 of products lines, and 1966.7 of crude lines); Canadian contractors, some 2152.10 miles. The 7517.63-miles total exceeds the 6537.47 miles reported for 1974. Of the 1975 total, 34% was 20-in.-diameter pipe or larger. Foreign construction is booming and leaning heavily toward large-diameter pipe: of the 17,804.7 miles of lines laid in countries other than the US or Canada, 10,599.97 miles (59%) was 20-in. diameter or larger. Various breakdowns of these and other figures for the years 1967 through 1975 are tabulated.
