U.S. and Canadian pipeline construction for 1976 showed a gain of 1148 miles over the 1975 figure for projects awarded, under construction, or completed. Of the U.S. total of 6224 miles, natural-gas lines account for over 3000 miles. In Canada, 1921 miles of the 2441 total will be for gas lines. Foreign construction showed a large increase, with 23,638 miles laid in 1976 compared to 17,804 in 1975. Natural-gas lines accounted for over 44% of foreign installations. Extensive tabulations break down these totals by company and pipe diameter for natural-gas, products, and crude pipelines.
