A Det norske Veritas report pointed out that the 11 concrete platforms in the North Sea surveyed recently by DnV represent an accumulated life of 65 years and voiced the opinion that maintenance will likely be found unnecessary and repairs will be restricted to accidental damage associated with ship impacts, etc. Six of the 11 platforms evaluated were CONDEEP structures, designed, constructed and installed by Norwegian Contractors. The physical characteristics of these platforms are shown. Among them are the Statfjord 'A', which recently set a daily production record of 309,000 bbl of oil, and the Statfjord 'B', one of the largest individual offshore structures. The volume of concrete in the latter structure is 140,000 m/sup 3/, and the maximum deck weight is 50,000 metric tons.
