US Supreme Court upholds FERC rules on avoided costs, power interconnections with cogenerators

Overturning an Appeals Court decision, the US Supreme Court found the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) fully within its legislative authority to promulgate rules for cogenerator and small power producers regarding how the purchase price for electricity should be set and under what circumstances monopolistic electric companies are required to interconnect with small qualified power facilities. Interpretation of the impact of this decision is mixed.
