The capacity of a coking plant is proportional to the mass of charge to the oven, which is dependent on the bulk density of the charge, which is also proportional to the degree of charge comminution. Since the quality of coke is dependent on the bulk density, the degree of charge comminution is a factor in both the economics and technical aspects of coke production. In the present report the method of determination of the degree of comminution was investigated. Numerous samples were taken, and the degree of comminution was determined. A statistical analysis of these data showed that the variability of the results increased as the sample size decreased. it was determined that the 2-3 kg samples were too small for reliable results.
